Spiritual care for patients declared 'brain-dead' and their relatives / parents is very needed.
The medical associations EPLD and BKÄ (Union of Catholic Physicians Germany) and the new "Ad-hoc medical Group Brain death-opposers" recomend an intensive spiritual care for dying and 'brain-dead' patients.
They may not be let alone in the clinics, whre they have to wait for hours and days for the explantation of their organs - with beating heart.
Spiritual care in the transplantation medicine is a call and a must:
This is the last time of life and also the immortal soul of the patient needs spiritual assistence.
It's an'important occasion to accompany the very ill patient.
Questions to the clergy
[Translate to englisch:] In unserem Aufrufbrief vom 29.12.2011 an die uns bekannten 40 Geistlichen stellten wir ihnen folgende Fragen:
Frage an Sie als Geistliche:
1. Sind Sie am Thema Lebensrecht - Hirntod interessiert?
2. Dürfen wir Sie künftig weiterhin informieren?
3. Haben Sie spezielle Fragen, Anliegen, Vorschläge?
4. Wie werden bei Ihnen / Ihren Krankenhäusern für "hirntot" erklärte Patienten / Gemeindemitglieder geistlich betreut?
Wie erfahren Sie, wenn eines Ihrer Gemeindemitglieder schwer krank / verletzt und 'hirntot' sterbend in der Klinik liegt?
5. Was halten Sie von einem ärztlich-christlichen Informationsvortrag vor Ihrer Pfarrgemeinde / dem Dekanatsrat / - Dies, ….?
6. Gibt es noch weitere Geistliche / Ärzte / Medizinstudenten aus Ihrem Bekanntenkreis, die man informieren könnte?
7. Was halten Sie von einem "Geistlichen Arbeitskreis Hirntod"?
(Seelsorge für Sterbende, 'Hirntote', Angehörige, …)
